Growth in rural wireless cell sites and deployment of rural DSLAMS is driving growth of T1
services in long rural outside plant routes. HDSL4, which is generally first choice for long route T1
deployment, is limited to about 45kft. Many carriers have continued to place traditional T1-Carrier
for T1 service beyond 45kft. This has presented several growing operational challenges including:

The wireless carrier turned to its longtime business partner, ADC, for help. Network technicians analyzed
a cluster of 11 BTS sites for a two-week period. Each BTS site included a three-sector, diversity tower
with the average height of each tower at 180 feet. Dropped Call (DC) and Failed Call Attempt (FCA)
data was gathered on each sector of each tower.

The first community scheduled for fiber
installation was Soldiers Grove. One of the key
decisions that RGTC needed to make early in the
planning stages of this initial project was selecting
the access terminals that would provide a flexible
and secure interface for the fiber network. As a
key component in the distribution framework, it
was critical that these access terminals support
fast and easy installation and enable simple, lowcost
upgrades and expansions as needed.

To assess the issues and opportunities optical technologies and networks bring
to end-users, we invited six leading experts to our semiannual roundtable discussion,
scheduled for Sept. 11, during the Networld+Interop show in Atlanta.
Unfortunately, that give-and-take session had to be cancelled. In its place, we
created a virtual roundtable on “The Optical Last Mile,” with our original panel
of experts participating via e-mail, resulting in this interesting and informative
dialogue on the optical revolution....

The reality of today’s marketplace dictates that service provider networks change to remain competitive.
New modulation techniques. Faster metro optical fiber rings. Voice, high-speed data and multimedia
services deployed closer than ever to the edge of the network. These changes are largely upgrades and
reconfigurations designed to improve reliability, availability, accuracy and breadth of services.
Establishing a solid network foundation rooted in connectivity has already proven successful as networks
transitioned from analog to digital and from copper to fiber, and as service providers joined networks
together through collocation and consolidation. As service providers approach the convergence of voice,
data and video with IP-based services, a foundation of...

As data and telephony converge, network
elements with varying amperage requirements are
often mixed within the same bay. The Select
Series™ fuse platform enables service providers to
fuse this equipment from one platform, in a single
rack unit, making the most of valuable space. Its
compact footprint and versatility are well-suited for
collocation applications where high-amperage
equipment such as routers, DSLAMs, and SONET
gear is installed with lower-amperage equipment.
Its patent-pending modular design enables service
providers to combine TPA, KTK/KLM, TPM or GMT
fuses within a single rack unit. Input power up to
100 Amps per bus with up to 50 Amps output
power per fuse position is available....
