Evaluation of health risks associated with exposure to volatile organic compounds from household fuel combustion in southern India

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from household cook-fuel use are a major public health concern in low and middle income countries (LMICs), but health risk assessments have largely been based on measurements of fine particulate matter. We report results from cooking period measurements of 21 non-methane VOCs (NMVOCs).

Patterns of mega-forest fires in east Siberia will become less predictable with climate warming

This effect from climate makes it nearly impossible to segregate ignition points from locations, which were burnt several hours or even several days earlier. An increase in secondary burnt locations makes it difficult for machine learning algorithms to establish causality links with anthropogenic and other groups of variables.

Ultimate fate and toxicological consequences of insecticide pyriproxyfen and its metabolites in soil ecosystem

ation. However, their residues persisted for more than 30 days with variable half-lives ranged from 2.6 to 30 days. The toxicological study revealed that metabolites C, E and F were highly pernicious to soil enzymes sucrase, catalase, urease and dehydrogenase. PYR do not posed any detrimental effects in adult honeybees. Considering the persistence behavior and toxicological consequences of metabolites, further investigations are needed for preventing their harmful effect on non-target organisms and associated environment.
