Preparation of ethyl levulinate from wheat stalk over Zr(SO4)2/SiO2

The results showed that the active component Zr(SO4 )2 was successfully adhered to the mesoporous SiO2 , and the acid amount of Zr(SO4)2/SiO2 increased with the increasing of the Zr(SO4)2 loadings. Finally, the wheat stalk was used as raw material and depolymerized over Zr(SO4)2/SiO2 to produce ethyl levulinate (EL). The reaction mixture was separated and purified by filtration and vacuum distillation. The kinetic characteristics and the reaction pathway were also studied. A comparative study showed that 20 wt.% Zr(SO4)2/SiO2 exhibited higher catalytic activity. When reaction temperature, time, catalyst dosage and Zr(SO4)2 loadings were 190 °C, 50 min, 20 wt.% and 30 wt.%, the EL yield reached a maximum of 17.14%. The relative content of EL exceeded 90% after three steps of distillation.

Theoretical investigation on the addition reaction of the germylenoid H2GeLiCl with acetone

In this work, theoretical calculations were performed on the addition reaction of the germylenoid H2 GeLiCl with acetone. The DFT M06-2X method was used to optimize the geometries of the whole stationary points on the potential energy surfaces and the QCISD method to calculate the single-point energy. The results reveal that the addition reaction of H2 GeLiCl with acetone firstly generates an oxagermacyclopropane c-H2GeOC(CH3)2 and then c-H2GeOC(CH3)2 further reacts with acetone along two possible pathways, pathway I and pathway II, in which the 2,4-dioxagermolane is formed at the end of pathway I and 2,5-dioxagermolane is formed at the end of pathway II, respectively.

Impact of graphitic carbon nitrides synthesized from different precursors on Schottky junction characteristics

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) has gained wide interest in many areas, such as energy and the environmental remediation as a layered polymeric semiconductor that allows the formation of catalytically active Schottky junctions due to its proper electronic band structure. Interestingly, although it is known that the precursors used in the synthesis, can influence the properties of the g-CN, no detailed study on these effects on Schottky junctions could be found in the literature. In this research, the effects of g-CNs synthesized by thermal polycondensation of different precursors on the photocatalytic efficiency of Schottky junctions were investigated.

Evaluation of quercetin as a potential β-lactamase CTX-M-15 inhibitor via the molecular docking, dynamics simulations, and MMGBSA

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens millions of people around the world and has been declared a global risk by the World Economic Forum. One of the important AMR mechanisms in Enterobacteriaceae is the production of extended-spectrum β-lactamases. The most common ESBL, CTX-M β-lactamases, is spread to the world by CTX-M-15 and CTX-M-14. Sulbactam, clavulanic acid, and tazobactam are first-generation β-lactamase inhibitors and avibactam is a new non-β-lactam β-lactamase inhibitor. We studied that avibactam, sulbactam, clavulanic acid, tazobactam, and quercetin natural flavonoids were docked to target protein CTXM-15. Subsequently, the complexes were simulated using the molecular dynamics simulations method during 100 ns for determining the final binding positions of ligands.

Novel mixed ligand coordination compounds of some rare earth metal cations containing acesulfamato/N,N-diethylnicotinamide

The mixed ligand coordination compounds containing acesulfamato and N,N-diethylnicotinamide biomolecules of some rare earth metal cations (Eu3+, Tb3+, Ho3+, Er3+ and Yb3+) were synthesized, and their structural properties were investigated. Possible structural formulas have been proposed by determining the chemical composition of molecules (elemental analysis), binding properties (infrared spectroscopy, mass analysis, solid-state UV-vis spectroscopy), thermal degradation properties (TGA / DTA curves). Based on the data collected, it is suggested that rare earth metal cations with a 3+ oxidation state have sextet coordination. The geometries of the structures were thought to be distorted octahedral.

Detection of bacteria using antimicrobial polymer derived via ring-opening metathesis (romp) pathway

There is growing interest in the detection of bacteria in consumables, for example, in the food and water sectors. In this study, the aim was to produce a polymer-based bacteria biosensor via ROMP (ring opening metathesis polymerization). In the first part of the study, block and random copolymers were synthesized, and their biocidal activities were tested on the glass surface. Interdigitated electrode arrays coated with the polymers possessing the highest activity were used to screen the affinity towards different bacterial strains by monitoring impedance variations in real-time. The polymer-coated electrode could detect gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria strains at a concentration of 107 cfu/mL. The results show that ROMP-based polymer offers bacterial detection and can be used in developing biosensor devices for efficiently detecting pathogenic bacteria.

Tuning the selective sorption features of microporous organic networks is of great importance for subsequent applications in gas uptake and hiding, while it is more attractive in terms of being both time and cost effective to realize these optimizations without using functional groups in the core and linker. “Knitting” is one of the easiest and most used method to obtain a broad scope of hyper-crosslinked polymers on a large scale from aromatic structures that do not contain functional groups for polymerization. By the use of Knitting method, a hypercrosslinked covalent ultramicroporous organic polymer was obtained via stepwise process from using triazatruxene (TAT) as core -a planar indole trimer- through anhydrous FeCl3 catalyzed Friedel–Crafts alkylation using dimethoxybenzene as a linker.
