A carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)-degrading bacterium was isolated from soil, identified as Bacillus methylotrophicus according to the physiological properties and analyses of 16S rRNA and a partial sequence of the gyrase A (gyrA) gene, and named as B. methylotrophicus Y37.
