ADC StarGazer® Element Management System ADC StarGazer is a common, extensible element management system for ADC broadband network elements. StarGazer’s graphical interface provides a rich and intuitive integrated network management experience for end users, while various northbound interfaces allow for easy integration with OSS applications. StarGazer management features include a strong representation from all the Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) management functional areas. The result is a sensible balance of capabilities that position StarGazer well for both carrier and enterprise environments. IP Explorer, showing Geo Map Configuration and Provisioning Made Easy StarGazer allows you to get started quickly on managing your network. The experience begins with auto-discovery of supported devices and their topology through standard routers and technology-specific subtending relationships. The IP Explorer feature of the StarGazer Network Management Client GUI shows the discovered network in tree and topology map views, automatically organized by subnet. From there, you can use StarGazer’s Geo Map view to organize the network into an unlimited hierarchy of sites and maps, for effective domain-based management of your distributed network. The IP Explorer and Geo Map views offer effective network organization and highly intuitive navigation methods, while product-specific FrontPanel chassis views offer full control over your network elements. FrontPanel views allow users to drill down quickly to the resources of interest and perform operations in the proper context. Configuration, provisioning, and status dialogs are designed using tables and forms to minimize navigation and data entry. StarGazer also applies the same ease-of-use principles to system administration. For example, StarGazer greatly simplifies the chore of upgrading software on supported devices. Capabilities include version management, compatibility checking, and the ability to download concurrently to multiple devices. PG-FlexPlus FrontPanel WorldDSL FrontPanel Campus FrontPanel Integrated Fault Management StarGazer includes an advanced, integrated fault management solution, with attractive and meaningful real-time site and network element alarm summaries, as well as effective detailed alarm/event viewing and tracking capabilities. Alarm summary views track and count alarms by site, NE, and severity. They are well suited for managers and executives, who routinely need to see network status at a glance. Yet, alarm summary views also offer a great “home” view for NOC technicians, who need to navigate quickly to the most severe problems in the network. The detailed alarm/event browser provides full visibility to all alarm and event attributes and includes interactive features such as alarm acknowledgement, audible alarms, event history, event notes, and viewing the configuration and status of alarmed resources. StarGazer GUI users can easily apply any of the built-in alarm/event filters and event browser layouts to create their own personal view. StarGazer also allows users to define their own alarm/event filters. These features foster flexible partitioning of work, based on product type, technology, skill level, or geographic domain, as well as a high degree of personal productivity. Users can attach notes to an event or alarm, which helps to track progress toward problem resolution. Notes and acknowledgements are immediately tagged by user ID and time stamp and made available for viewing by all users in the active events/alarms browser. They are also stored in the event history database for future reference. Although the ADC StarGazer EMS, in standalone mode, serves as a world-class fault management solution, integration with higher-level network fault solutions is Alarm Summary, showing site summary with node summary for selected site even more important. StarGazer can be configured to report events and alarms to “northbound” NMS/OSS applications using either SNMP traps or XML over CORBA. StarGazer greatly simplifies fault management integration by using a single, normalized alarm/event record format – thus, minimizing “client side” adaptation time and effort. Furthermore, StarGazer supports multiple concurrent NMS/OSS inter-connections, each with unique filtering and protocol selections. For easy integration with external tools, current and historical fault information can be quickly and easily retrieved from the StarGazer database using any standard SQL or JDBC client application, including Microsoft® Office tools.
