Aston villA footbAll club Sustainability Report 2010 Prepared Future Executive Summary Catering  It is a Club directive that all suppliers have been asked to source as much locally as possible. Failing that, the products must be British (wherever possible).  The Club uses Rainforest Alliance tea and coffee with fair trade sugar.  All fish is from British ports using sustainable fishing methods.  Meat and poultry is from local farms as much as possible and where applicable bearing the Red Tractor stamp. Recycling and Waste  The Club operates a comprehensive waste management programme in partnership with Weir Waste Management. Weir is certified to BSI ISO 9001:2008, and BSI ISO 14001, the most widely recognized international standard for Quality Management.  The Club currently recycles 70% of the waste generated and is working to increase this.  All of the printed materials we produce are printed by a local company, Advek, a member of the Forrest Stewardship Council. 98% of the items we produce are printed on recycled paper.  Printers are set to print in black and white and double sided as standard, using recycled printer paper. Energy And Water Usage  Bore-hole water sourcing has been introduced at the Bodymoor Heath training ground for use in pitch irrigation.  The Club is replacing all of the old screw taps with water-saving push taps in all toilet blocks throughout the concourses.  ‘Smart flush’ is being installed on all urinals across the stadium.  Aston Villa operates a Trend Control System which allows heating, lighting and all electrical equipment to be controlled remotely in zones. The stadium management team ensures only the zones in use are powered.  The Club maintained a positive trend in decreasing electricity usage since 2004. Location and Travel  Served by two train stations, both within 10 minute walk of the stadium with regular train services from Birmingham city centre and Birmingham International.  The Club runs a structured travel plan which aims to significantly reduce the number of cars coming to the stadium over the next five years. This includes match and non-matchdays. People and Communities  The Club has a special relationship with the local children’s hospice, Acorns. The Club has carried the name on their shirts for two years as well as partcipated in extensive fundraising and ongoing support. The Club‘s very personal relationship with Acorns spans the players, the staff and the fans.  Working in the local community, Aston Villa runs various schemes and initiatives to promote health activity and well-being.  The Club promotes diversity and works with the Premier League on the Kick Out Racism initiative.  Community work undertaken by the Club has a financial value of more than £6million. Management and Policies  Aston Villa has a multi department working group responsible for the development of a sustainability policy and identification of best practice.  Aston Villa strives to treat all staff fairly and responsibly.
