Equipment Descriptions Van Used to haul dry freight. There are several types: • Open top van which is also referred to as covered wagon (Metal walls with a canvas or tarp top). • Garment trailer which has ropes hanging from roof to hang clothes. • Curtain Vans which have canvas or tarp on the sides for loading from sides of van. • Hi-Cube Van which is 100” high from floor to ceiling. • Heated Van which has a heater on the trailer to protect freight from freezing. • Air Ride Van which has air suspension to protect sensitive freight from being damaged. Wood floor, aluminum walls. Most are lined with wood inside. Length: 40’, 45’, 48’, 53’, and doubles, 56’. Height: 13’0” = 13’6”, inside height about 100” – 110”. Doors: Swing doors or roll-up doors. Roll-up doors take away from the height. Maximum Weight Capacity: 45,000 lbs., but some companies can haul more. Some vans have heaters which protect product from freezing but cannot maintain a specific temperature. Shipper can nail or chock a product to the floor.
