On the cusp of a new order
Even after two years of high drama since the collapse of Lehman, the world is still experiencing very uncertain times and yet despite the talk of further market crashes, a currency crisis, financial meltdown and the demise of hedge funds, there is
a great deal of optimism for the future of investment funds. However, most people are agreed that the future will look very different to what has gone before. For instance, there are major regulatory changes coming down the track not only in the regulation of the investment funds industry itself but financial services generally, including the regulation of banks. These changes will have their own impact on our industry.
While most of us are optimistic about the future it is not at all clear where the industry goal posts will finally be placed. There is still much debate, lobbying and work to be done
if we are to influence a new order which will be practical and workable. This is why the Globalisation of Investment Funds Conference with its long and illustrious track record is more relevant than ever. Last year’s conference was an unqualified success and I believe the main concern for 2011 is whether the venue will be able to accommodate the
expected increase in numbers. I would therefore, encourage all of you to book early. We expect the debate around the major regulatory initiatives and the emergence of certain dominant products to be lively to say the least.
We believe it is at conferences like ours that market participants have the opportunity to make their voices heard and to influence the development of the industry. It is for this reason that we encourage audience participation and lively debate. Challenging sacred cows is no bad thing and with this in mind
I invite you to join us again if you are an old friend and if you have not been before please join us and make new friends and contacts in the industry while at the same time informing yourself of the changing nature of the industry.
Yours sincerely,
