Every player of a team is assigned a certain position and a primary task. In general, the players can be categorized into goalkeepers and field players, which include forwards, midfielders, and fullbacks. Now, it is the task of the coach to choose the right formation for the team, be it 4-4-2, 3-5-2, or 4-2-4. A team should be flexible enough to try out various positions and make some modifications in keeping with their game strategies. The number of soccer players playing on the field is not fixed. In fact, it varies greatly depending on the age, country, or league. In general, the number of players per team can range from 5 to 11. If a team has only 5 players, they can do away with the midfielders. Soccer positions can be broadly categorized into four: Forwards, Midfielders, Defenders, and Goalie/Goalkeeper.
