Trichomonas vaginalis (T. vaginalis) is a common health problem all over the world. The present study aimed to determine the prevalence rate and risk factors of T. vaginalis in females in Menoufia Governorate, Egypt and assess some immunological parameters includingIL-2, IL-17, IL22 and INFᵧ and their relation to cytopathological changes in asymptomatic and symptomatic T. vaginalis infected females. Two hundred females aging between 18 and 50 years' old were classified into two groups: Group I: Asymptomatic females subdivided into subgroup I a (non-infected) from which control subgroup were selected and I b (infected).Group II: Symptomatic females was subdivided into subgroup II a (non-infected) and II b (infected).

Isolation of bacterial pathogens and detection of MRSA and ESBL producers causing asymptomatic bacteriuria in antenatal women

To isolate the bacterial pathogens causing asymptomatic bacteriuria in antenatal women,to study the drug resistance pattern and prevalence of MRSA and ESBL producers. Bacterial pathogens were isolated from 1000 urine samples collected from antenatal women following standard procedures. All the isolates were studied for antibiotic susceptibility pattern using modified Kirby bauer disc diffusion method. Resistant isolates were identified and studied for MRSA and ESBL by various methods. Out of 1000 urine samples culture positive were 118(11.8%). E.coli was the predominant organism isolated 54 (45.76 %).All Gram negative bacilli were 100% sensitive to Piperacillin –tazobactam and Imipenem. All Gram positive cocci were 100% sensitive to Vancomycin and Linezolid. No MRSA was detected. Among the Enterobacteriaceae isolates, 6(8%) were found to be ESBL producers. As asymptomatic bacteriuria is related to the complications in pregnancy, it is imperative that Urine culture tests should be done routinely for all the pregnant women to find out asymptomatic bacteriuria, and every positive case should be managed with appropriate antibiotics, to prevent any complication related to pregnancy.

Vulvovaginal candidosis

Vulvovaginal candidiasis is the name often given to Candida albicans infection of the vagina associated with a dermatitis of the vulva (an itchy rash). ‗Vaginal thrush‘, ‗monilia‘, and vulvovaginal candidosis are other names used for vulvovaginal candidiasis. About 20% of non-pregnant women aged 15 to 55 harbour Candida albicans in the vagina. Most have no symptoms and it is harmless to them. Overgrowth of Candida albicans causes a heavy white curd-like vaginal discharge, a burning sensation in the vagina and vulva and/or an itchy rash on the vulva and surrounding skin. Oestrogen causes the lining of the vagina to mature and to contain glycogen, a substrate on which Candida albicans thrives.
