Optimising function and well-being in older adults: Protocol for an integrated research programme in Aotearoa/New Zealand

Maintaining independence is of key importance to older people. Ways to enable health strategies, strengthen and support whanāu (family) at the community level are needed. The Ageing Well through Eating, Sleeping, Socialising and Mobility (AWESSOM) programme in Aotearoa/New Zealand (NZ) delivers five integrated studies across different ethnicities and ages to optimise well-being and to reverse the trajectory of functional decline and dependence associated with ageing.

Association between orthostatic blood pressure dysregulation and geriatric syndromes: A cross-sectional study

Orthostatic blood pressure dysregulation, including orthostatic hypotension (OH) and orthostatic hypertension (OHT), is common in the elderly. The association between OH and, to a lesser extent, OHT with geriatric syndromes is controversial and little investigated.

Prioritization of indicators of the quality of care provided to older adults with frailty by key stakeholders from fve canadian provinces

To meet the needs of older adults with frailty better, it is essential to understand which aspects of care are important from their perspective. We therefore sought to assess the importance of a set of quality indicators (QI) for monitoring outcomes in this population.

Infuence of oral health on frailty in patients with type 2 diabetes aged 75years or older

Poor oral health conditions are known to affect frailty in the older adults. Diabetes is a risk factor for both poor oral health and frailty, therefore, oral health status may affect frailty in diabetic patients more than in the general population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of oral health and other factors on frailty and the relationship among oral health, diabetes and frailty in older adult patients with type 2 diabetes.

Is Frailty Index a better predictor than pre‑stroke modifed Rankin Scale for neurocognitive outcomes 3‑months post‑stroke?

The prognostic value of frailty measures for post-stroke neurocognitive disorder (NCD) remains to be evaluated. Aims: The aim of this study was to compare the predictive value of pre-stroke FI with pre-stroke modified Rankin Scale (mRS) for post-stroke cognitive impairment. Further, we explored the added value of including FI in prediction models for cognitive prognosis post-stroke.

The long-term prognostic value of serum 25(OH)D, albumin, and LL-37 levels in acute respiratory diseases among older adults

Older adults are more susceptible to respiratory tract infection than healthy working age adults. The increased susceptibility of older adults is thought to be interlinked with vitamin D status, nourishment, and immuno‑ logical state in general. Data are scarce whether these parameters could serve as prognostic markers.

Primary care physicians’ approaches to lowvalue prescribing in older adults: A qualitative study

Low-value prescribing may result in adverse patient outcomes and increased medical expenditures. Clinicians’ baseline strategies for navigating patient encounters involving low-value prescribing remain poorly understood, making it challenging to develop acceptable deprescribing interventions. Our objective was to characterize primary care physicians’ (PCPs) approaches to reduce low-value prescribing in older adults through qualitative analysis of clinical scenarios.

Obstacles to access to community care in urban senior-only households: A qualitative study

The increased number of older adults living alone has created a substantial care need. However, the utilization rate of services and facilities to meet these needs are surprisingly low. Many of older adults experience difficulties accessing these services, although it remains unclear how these obstacles impede access to services. This study explored the obstacles and difficulties experienced by urban older adults in seeking community care.

Optimising diagnosis and post-diagnostic support for people living with dementia: Geriatricians’ views

Providing a timely and accurate diagnosis of dementia and delivering appropriate support following a diagnosis are essential to allow individuals and their families to plan for the future. Recent studies suggest that provision of diagnosis and post-diagnosis support is suboptimal. This study explored geriatricians’ views about strategies to improve quality of care across these domains.

Association between indoor ventilation frequency and cognitive function among community-dwelling older adults in China: Results from the Chinese longitudinal healthy longevity survey

Emerging evidence suggested that indoor air pollution caused long-term adverse efects on cognitive function among older adults who spend more than 85% of their time indoors. Although high indoor ventilation can mitigate the efect of indoor air pollution on cognition among the younger population, limited evidence revealed the association between indoor ventilation and cognition among older adults.
