Effects of the tailored activity program (TAP) on dementia-related symptoms, health events and caregiver wellbeing: A randomized controlled trial

People living with dementia (PLWD) and caregivers are adversely impacted by lack of meaningful activity leading to worse symptoms and impaired quality-of-life. There is a critical need to develop effective and well-tolerated treatments that mitigate clinical symptoms, engage PLWD and support caregiver wellbeing.

Regional and income disparities in treatment and drug adherence of patients with dyslipidemia: A retrospective cohort study in South Korea, 2003–2015

Health disparities represent a major public health problem that needs to be addressed, and a variety of factors, including geographical location and income, can contribute to these disparities. Although previous studies have suggested that health differs by region and income, evidence on the difference in treatment rate is relatively insufficient.

Evaluation of the implementation of multidisciplinary fast-track program for acute geriatric hip fractures at a University Hospital in resource-limited settings

Hip fractures are common among frail, older people and associated with multiple adverse outcomes, including death. Timely and appropriate care by a multidisciplinary team may improve outcomes. Implementing a team to jointly deliver the service in resource-limited settings is challenging, particularly on the effectiveness of patient outcomes.

Management of preoperative pain in elderly patients with moderate to severe cognitive deficits and hip fracture: A retrospective, monocentric study in an orthogeriatric unit

Patients with cognitive deficits are 3 times more likely to suffer a hip fracture than geriatric patients of the same age group without cognitive deficits. The persistence of perioperative pain following hip fracture is a risk factor for the occurrence of delirium, poor functional prognosis, and the development of secondary chronic pain.

Falls associated with indoor and outdoor environmental hazards among communitydwelling older adults between men and women

Hazardous environmental exposures are recognized risk factors for falls among older adults. However, the gender differences in the associations of falls with indoor and outdoor environmental hazards are scarce. This study examined the indoor and outdoor environmental risk factors for falls and compared the data for men and women among U.S. older adults using nationally representative data.

The doll therapy as a first-line treatment for behavioral and psychologic symptoms of dementia in nursing homes residents: A randomized, controlled study

Patients living with dementia are severely affected by the development of behavioral and psychologic symptoms (BPSD) which represent a burden for patients and caregivers. The use of psychotropic drugs in the control of BPSD is widely diffused, however the use of a first-line non-pharmacologic approach is highly recommended.

Transplant centers that assess frailty as part of clinical practice have better outcomes

Frailty predicts adverse post-kidney transplant (KT) outcomes, yet the impact of frailty assessment on center-level outcomes remains unclear. We sought to test whether transplant centers assessing frailty as part of clinical practice have better pre- and post-KT outcomes in all adult patients (≥18 years) and older patients (≥65 years).
