Synergy of digitalization within the framework of increasing energy efficiency in manufacturing industry

The article contains the results of the study of manufacturing industry in terms of energy efficiency, digitalization and ecology. Interdependencies of the listed aspects are established and the synergetic effect of digitization is determined with the help of economic and mathematical modeling. The aim of the study is to determine the synergistic effect of digitalization, taking into account the improvement of energy efficiency and environmental protection of manufacturing.

Sustainability in local power supply systems of production facilities where there is the compensatory use of renewable energy sources

Renewable energy has become a promising way to meet growing energy needs in the society. However, operation of power supply systems based on renewable energy sources (RES) depends on a number of uncontrolled factors. This imposes certain restrictions on applications and causes applicationrelated challenges. At this point, the search for the best combination of applied energy sources has been still a key issue. Methodological approaches to the solution to this problem are diverse. The idea of our research is the application of tools from economics and mathematics to measure the best mutual substitution of energy resources in the production facility local power supply system.

Strategic planning of regional energy system based on life cycle assessment methodology

The Krasnodar territory is considered one of most attractive regions in Russia in terms of its climatic characteristics for the development of renewable energy sources. According to the current plans of Russian Ministry of Energy, the cumulative capacity of wind generating facilities in the Krasnodar Territory will reach 405 MW by 2022. It is well known form the literature, the average installed capacity utilization factor of wind turbines currently is about 30%. Comparatively low installed capacity utilization factor of wind parks significantly increases their payback period, thereby reducing commercial attractiveness. However, from an environmental point of view, low installed capacity utilization factor of wind plant can also be a problem: this means that most of the energy and materials spent on the manufacturing of an energy object do not produce a useful output, in other words, wasted. Therefore, a promising way to increase the installed capacity utilization factor of wind and solar plants is the use of energy storage systems.

Prospects and challenges of energy cooperation between Russia and south Korea

In the past, cooperation between South Korea and the Russian Federation had been hindered by predominantly political factors. The implementation of energy resource projects was not viable due to tensions on the Korean peninsula and Russia’s capabilities were limited due to sanctions against it. While projects had been fulfilled, enough of them had been left on paper, so there is hesitation in developing new strategies. But that is history. Both countries have shown interest in forming a partnership from which they can benefit. Changes in the political situation have opened a window for many new opportunities. This manuscript examines and analyzes the development of interrelations between Russia and South Korea and gives a valuation of the prospects of cooperation in the short and medium term.

Perceptions and determinants of smes consumers’ behaviors for electricity saving: evidence from Indonesia

Consumer’s behavior can affect volume and electricity demand profile. Therefore, knowing behavior of users is valuable to manage electricity usage, to design better energy policy and management. This study aims to analyse electricity users for manufacturing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Makassar, Indonesia to get information about perceptions and users’ behaviors on energy consumption using statistical approach. A questionnaire for survey is firstly designed to obtain required data from respondents. Next, two regression models are proposed to examine determinants of usage behavior and habit of SMEs users towards electricity saving. Explanation variables in the models are user’s perception, meteorological, economic, and production technology. Results shown the designed questionnaire is reliable. Perception on energy saving for SMEs’ users is generally good enough. The perceptions of consumers are different based on the characteristics of demographic. Other results shown determinants of usage behaviour in SMEs towards electricity saving are user’s perception, economic and production technology. Meanwhile determinant for habit of users is perception and production technology. Presented results can give more insight to government or power utility in relation to encourage energy efficiency for industrial sector in Indonesia.

Modelling of energy efficiency factors of petrochemical industry

The relevance of the article is due to the fact that the issues of improving the energy efficiency of the petrochemical industry are constantly developing and require the development of new methodological solutions and management tools. The solution of the identified tasks will allow to reveal new directions of improvement of stability of the petrochemical complex and increase of its competitiveness. The purpose of the article is to determine the relationship between energy efficiency indicators and industrial production indicators, as well as to cluster regions in which the oil production and oil refining industry is present in order to systematize the factors of their development.

Modeling consumer and industry reaction to renewable support schemes: Empirical evidence from the USA and applications for Russia

In this work, we simulate the impact of some government support measures on the development of small-scale power generation based on photovoltaics (PV). Models constructed based on the data on the development of PV in three states of the USA, -Alaska, Pennsylvania and Washington - the climatic and infrastructural conditions in which are close to the conditions of the Russian regions included in a single energy system. Analyzing the share of electricity payments in the structure of income/expenses of the population of Russia and the United States, we prove that the constructed models are applicable to Russian conditions, but only after the enactment of the law on micro-generation and the adoption of relevant amendments to the tax code.

Long-term prospects for the development energy complex of Russia

The article discusses the long-term prospects for the development of the energy complex and its role in the Russian economy in the context of the restructuring of world energy markets and taking into account the draft Energy Strategy of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2035. Using the SCANER information complex, scenarios for the evolution of world energy markets and the corresponding scenarios for the development of the Russian economy and energy have been developed. The dynamics of domestic consumption of the main types of fuel and energy is analyzed taking into account energy conservation, as well as the effective size and direction of export of the main types of fuel.

Impact of regional conflicts on energy security in Jordan

This paper presents a study which analyzes the energy security in Jordan in light of several regional conflicts for the period (1960-2011). We apply an event study method to assess the direct and indirect effects of six regional conflicts on the energy sector in Jordan based on a proposed energy security framework developed from an infusion of frameworks found in literature. The conflicts include the 6 days war, Lebanese civil war, Iraq-Iran war, First Gulf war, Iraq Invasion, and Egyptian revolution. It was found that the energy sector in Jordan is too sensitive to the regional conflicts due to the lack of diversity of energy suppliers throughout the period of study. Other aspects taken into consideration included strategic storage adequacy, supply chain protection, economic integration, energy demands and prices. The study concludes with a proposed energy policy aiming the reduction of those effects.

Financial liquidity management strategies in polish energy companies

Financial liquidity is the foundation for building a strong enterprise. Every small or large enterprise, regardless of the industry, needs to have financial liquidity to grow. Its management is complicated as it is related to current assets, short-term liabilities and profitability. The existing relationship between profitability and liquidity makes it very difficult to choose the right liquidity management strategy. The purpose of the article is to analyze the strategy of managing liquidity in state-owned enterprises operating in the energy sector. In this industry in Poland in recent years there has been a high increase in costs related to fees for CO2 emissions, which will have the large impact on the profitability of enterprises, which will hinder the choice of financial liquidity management strategies. The specificity of the industry, the form of ownership of the analyzed enterprises and the government’s policy will also have a significant impact on the shape of the liquidity management policy. The analysis was based on the financial statements for 2015-2018.

Feasibility analysis of a renewable autonomous power supply system at a coastal area in Indonesia

The Indonesian government program in providing solutions of electrical energy distribution problems to get to remote or isolated areas is to optimize the potential of renewable energy in an area. The combination of conventional power plants (diesel generators) with renewable energy (photovoltaic and wind turbine) power plants is expected to solve the problem of electricity service in isolated areas in southern Tulungagung regency, namely residential area in Brumbun Beach. The existence of government assistance in the form of solar panels distributed to each family head still can not optimize the utilization of electrical energy for 24 h in a day, this is because the generation of diesel generators and solar panels are done separately. This research focuses on the design and analysis of renewable autonomous power supply system which consists of centralized solar-powered diesel generator (solar panel – wind turbine – diesel generator) systems using HOMER software.

Factors associated with electricity theft in Mexico

The objective of this research is uncover some of the factors associated with electricity theft in Mexico. Econometric models of ordinary least squares with state and metropolitan information are carried out in order to know the determinants of energy theft. The models showed that there is a significant and positive relationship between electricity’s theft and crime, government inefficiency, population, and population density.

Energy-conservation considerations through a novel integration of sunspace and solar chimney in the terraced rural dwellings

In the present study, a novel passive solar system—a designed sunspace in combination with solar chimney (SS)—is implied to work out the concerns of energy requirement in the terraced rural dwellings of Iran. Renewable plans for heating need to be implemented before regarding mechanical facilities. Due to the southern orientation of most rural homes moreover, dwelling slope it is likely to use sunlight in most hours of the day. Hence, the SS system with an area of 4 m2 on the southern side of the building is considered. The simulation was performed through the EnergyPlus software and verified by experimental data. On the basis of the results, applying the SS system in buildings can magnify the amount of heat obtained. This is a practical plan to assist in space heating in cold months. Moreover, natural night ventilation over the SS can reduce the cooling load during hot seasons. The results additionally indicate that the highest energy-saving for heating and cooling observed in January and July respectively. Lastly, the annual economic advantage of the SS system with respect to power conservation will be 14.3% accordingly the increased cost for installing the SS will be retrieved by 8 years generally.

Energy system structure in Russian Arctic: Coal production forecast

The article characterizes the electric power industry in the Arctic regions of Russia. The regions of the eastern zone of the Russian Arctic differ significantly in terms of centralization of power supply. Centralized electricity supply in this territory is represented by only a few isolated functioning energy centers: Norilsk in the north of Krasnoyarsk Territory, Chaun-Bilibinsky, Anadyrsky and Egvekinotsky in the Chukotka Autonomous Region. The Arctic and northern regions of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) are completely located in the decentralized power supply zone. The paper provides a comparative study of energy system structure. The summary of results obtained the key areas of power generation diversification.

Energy sustainability through generation scheduling

In a modest electrical energy sector, an economical unit cost of electricity generation is inevitable. For tropical countries like Malaysia, apart from attractive energy cost, the environmental issues due to electricity sector also play a significant role because of its tropical nature. The energy cost and its related environmental concerns are of the momentous issues of the Malaysian Government. So as to resolve the concerned issues, this research presents a direct generation scheduling strategy to match demand against power generation, to augment opportunity for energy sustainability, and to offer an attractive unit electric energy cost. Besides, the same strategy aims at minimizing emissions due to thermal power plants through generation scheduling and incorporation of renewable energy systems.

Energy conservation and energy management for industry in Indonesia in islamic economic perspective

This article will explore energy conservation as part of the national energy policy in Indonesia. Although the government has implemented a strategy for implementing energy conservation by applying energy management to the industrial sector, energy conservation still has challenges and obstacles in making it happen. By analyzing energy conservation policies and understanding the Maqasid Al-shariah framework which is the operational foundation of Islamic economics on the themes of economic energy, this paper concludes that energy conservation as part of religious obligations implemented in energy consumption behavior, because energy is the main source for sustainability human life. Therefore, moral values become the main foundation in energy conservation behavior as a reflection of the achievement of the objectives of Islamic law and energy management as a systematic effort to utilize energy in industry, not only to increase productivity through energy efficiency and conservation but also to maintain sustainability towards the energy needs themselves.

Effect of debt structure on earnings quality of energy businesses in Vietnam

The paper examines the impact of debt structure (DS) on the earnings quality (EQ) of energy businesses (DN) in Vietnam. The authors measure EQ in terms of profit management to consider the effect of accounts payable; short-term debts and loans; long-term debts and loans on EQ. The research uses generalized least squares regression method with data gathered from 468 observations collected at energy enterprises listed on the stock market in Vietnam in the period of 2009-2018. The study results have found that accounts payable to suppliers and short-term debts and loans have negative effect on EQ; while long-term debts and loans have positive effect on EQ. Besides, firm size has a positive effect on EQ, while profitability is a not statistically significant variable. The empirical research results are useful basis to help businesses improve their EQ, thereby helping businesses to consider an appropriate level of DS.

Developing and evaluating the sustainable energy security index and its performance in Malaysia

There is an increasing interest in understanding the crucial factors of sustainable development in terms of security of supply, conservation, and environmental impacts. Based on the current energy perspectives, there are serious challenges in achieving energy security and sustainability. Sustainable energy security (SES) must not only consider the security of energy supply-demand in the long-term and short-term, but also emphasise the balance between energy, economy, social, and environmental factors. Based on the five dimensions of energy security (availability, accessibility, affordability, acceptability, and develop-ability), this study aims to develop and evaluate SES index for Malaysia. The weight of energy security indexes was determined using the entropy weight method.

Optimum design of a CCHP system based on Economical, energy and environmental considerations using GA and PSO

The results show that using FEL strategy CO2 emissions reduces in compression to FTL strategy. Furthermore, using multiple power generation units under FTL strategy eventuates the least cost but increases CO2 emissions and energy consumption in compression to FEL strategy.

Iran's nuclear program timeline and history

Iran's interest in nuclear technology dates to the 1950s, when the Shah of Iran received technical assistance under the U.S. Atoms for Peace program. While this assistance ended with the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Iran remained interested in nuclear technology and developed an extensive nuclear fuel cycle, including sophisticated enrichment capabilities, which became the subject of intense international negotiations and sanctions between 2002 and 2015. Negotiations between the P5+1 and Iran yielded the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in July 2015, a comprehensive 25-year nuclear agreement limiting Iran's nuclear capacity in exchange for sanctions relief.

Chế tạo hạt nano Pt/C, Pt-Ru/C và ảnh hưởng của quá trình ép nhiệt trên hiệu suất của pin nhiên liệu dùng methanol trực tiếp

Mục tiêu nghiên cứu của đề tài nhằm khảo sát vai trò của nhiệt độ trong quá trình chế tạo màng phủ xúc tác (CCM) bằng phương pháp decal và tổng hợp xúc tác hạt nano tại cathode và anode là Pt/C, PtRu/C. Từ kết quả FESEM cho thấy sự phân bố hạt trên bề mặt lớp xúc tác tại các nhiệt độ 175 oC, 185 oC, 195 oC và tính đường kính trung bình độ xốp. Qua đó, khi ở nhiệt độ 185 oC sự phân bố đồng đều nhất và đường kính trung bình độ xốp là 0,85m . Màng CCM tại nhiệt độ 185 oC cải thiện được sự tiếp xúc giữa lớp xúc tác và màng, hiệu suất đầu ra của pin là cao nhất thông qua đường đặc trưng I-V và xác định mối quan hệ I-P, đạt giá trị điện thế, mật độ dòng điện và mật độ công suất lớn nhất là 0,625V, 162 mA.cm-2 , 22,4 mW.cm-2 . Khi nhiệt độ tăng đến 195 oC điện thế, mật độ dòng điện và mật độ công suất giảm đáng kể là 0,58 V, 122 mA.cm-2 , 15,2 mW.cm-2 .
