Factors associated with electricity losses: A panel data perspective

This study is to explore the factors associated with electricity losses in the world. A database of 91 countries and 10 years of available data, from 2005 to 2014, was built, with variables taken according to our literature review and obtaind from different publicly available sources. A panel data model with international information was then tested in order to find the determinants of power losses. The model with the best fit was one with random effects. Our results show that the variables unemployment and crime were significant and positive at one percent, while urbanization and education were significant and negative also at one percent. Finally, we provide some policy implications on the evidence of how electricity losses are associated with low education, high unemployment, high homicide rates, and less urbanization.

Evaluation of the gas industry company’s competitiveness in the domestic market

Quantification of a company’s competitiveness in the gas industry is necessary in order to find the possibility for that entity to maintain or increase its competitive advantage in the respective markets for goods and services. Therefore, the market opportunities of an economic entity are the result of the competitive advantages creation, the form, quantity, and quality of which determine the scope, nature and success of the entity’s activity in its market segment and the possibility of its expanding to new markets. The need to assess competitiveness is confirmed by the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the Russian companies’ activities in the oil and gas industry. The authors applied a dynamic method for assessing the competitiveness of a leading company in the Russian gas market.

Energy price formation and energy consumption by households as a factor of ensuring energy safety

The objective of the article was to analyze the issue of developing energy price formation by various countries in the context of component structure of the cost per energy unit for households. For conducting the research the principles “Expenses +” and Regulatory Asset Base were used. Amethodological author’s approach related to the estimation of pricing level for energy resources based on Energy Pricing Index was proposed. The highest gas prices are in Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, France and Ireland that relates not so much to gas market as to the prime cost of green electricity. The specific feature of the price policy in European countries is the establishment of higher gas prices for households than for industries. Unlike Russia, “crosssubsidization” has completely opposite content. The value of gas price in European countries does not depend on whether this country is its producer on its territory.

Drivers of the quality of electricity supply

This article is the first proposing a cross-country analysis identifying the determinants of the quality of electricity supply at a global level. In this analysis, 138 countries at different development stages have been considered and data are sourced in the Global Competitiveness Report (2016-2017), Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI) and the World Development Indicators (WDI). The Findings confirm the importance of institutional infrastructures such as regulation quality, government effectiveness and rule of law, but also other parameters such as, Foreign Direct Investment and Technology Transfer, Availability of Latest Technology, the income of the population (gdp per capita) and the quality of the workforce (quality of education). The coherence of this empirical result is confirmed by the performances of developing countries which is lower than those of developed countries.

Decovidization through rurbanization: The re-development option for sustainable energy access

The paper conceptualizes rurbanization to bridge the gap in the research that emanates from the propensity of urban megapolises to create clutter, which results in degraded ecology, air pollution, health hazards, lower quality of life, gender inequity, and vulnerability to natural disasters. This has exacerbated during the current global pandemic. As de-covidating initiatives are unleashed, the energy access would need appropriate and manageable scale. Urbanization cannot be sustained without a robust rural interface.

Analysis of the effects of cell temperature on the predictability of the solar photovoltaic power production

To this aim, ten physics-based models have been investigated to determine the cell temperature, and those models have been validated using measured PV cell temperatures by computing the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). Then, the model with the lowest RMSE has been adopted in training a data-driven prediction model. The proposed prediction model is to use an ANN compared to the well-known benchmark model from the literature, i.e., Multiple Linear Regression (MLR). The results obtained, using standard performance metrics, have displayed the importance of considering the cell temperature when predicting the PV power output.

An approach to the large-scale integration of wind energy in Albania

In this paper, analyses are conducted in order to investigate to which extent and way the absorption capacity of the power system from RES electricity can be improved. As an effective approach of implementing wind power, fostering the accommodation of renewable energy sources, especially on large-scale, a detailed techno-economic analysis of the 164 MW installed grid-connected wind farm, considered as a potential source, Korça district is analyzed. Conjoining two different types energy tools, RETScreen, a tool used on plant scale level and EnergyPLAN model applied for large energy system on national level including all energy sectors an optimization process is notably focused to attain 42% of the final energy consumption from RES by 2030, which was highly preformed in EnergyPLAN model. The results execute in EnergyPLAN identifies that the wind power capacity should be at least1850 MW and an installation cost not more than 1.1m€/ MW considering a bench mark price of electricity €76/MWh.
