Enhancing the use of inversion structures in academic writing for English majors at Thai Nguyen University of Education

The effects of Portfolios on developing writing skills of English major students at Hanoi Law University
The experimental group was taught English writing skills using portfolios while traditional teaching method was applied to the control group. A pretest and a post-test were administered to both groups to measure the differences in students’ writing performances. The results revealed that portfolios had positive impacts on students’ writing skills.

Academic English vocabulary learning strategies: Reflections by university students
A majority of them used the lexical familiarization strategy to guess the meanings of words from context and social strategy by asking other classmates/friends for the meanings of the academic words. The students also reported the employment of cognitive strategy with both written and verbal repetition to remember vocabulary.

Advantages and challenges of the CEFR-aligned learning outcome implementation for non English major students at Hue University
The advantages included appropriate teacher training, modern facilities and resources, teacher sound understanding of the policy, and positive changes in teaching methodology. The challenges were more related to the imbalance among students’ proficiency, assigned textbooks, teacher-led hours and required learning outcome and assessment practices.

Exploring tertiary English-majored students’ academic writing difficulties
This paper endeavors to present the findings of a study on the writing difficulties in terms of six aspects in academic writing, namely organization/sequence, vocabulary/spelling, grammar, supporting ideas, punctuation/capitalization, and unity and coherence encountered by Englishmajored students. The research participants were 126 English-majored students from a higher education institution in Lam Dong province, Vietnam. The participants took part in answering closed-ended questionnaires.

Error analysis on English compositions and paragraphs of Vietnamese students
The present study aimed to explore the writing errors in English compositions and paragraphs of Vietnamese students at a university in Vietnam and to compare the shared common errors made in their writings. This intended to see whether students with different levels have the same errors. The study used a corpus of 36 Vietnamese students’ composition writings and 36 paragraph writings. The data committed were categorized into three different error types by the framework of Chanquoy (2001).

A study on high school students’ perceptions of the process of learning to write Emails in english
The present study was carried out to investigate students’ perceptions of the process of learning to write emails in English. The participants comprised of 100 high school students of grade 11. Data collection methods include questionnaire, interview and reflective journals. The study found that students had good awareness of email writing skills in the classroom. They shared their viewpoints on the process of learning to write emails in English both negatively and positively, with positive opinions outweighing negative ones.
