Don’t be first! An empirical test of the first-mover disadvantage hypothesis in a culinary game show

The purpose of the study presented in this paper was to evaluate the first-mover disadvantage hypothesis. Data from a Swedish television cooking game show was used to test the hypothesis. Each week four contestants on the game show take turns hosting each other at a dinner.

Changing age structure and input substitutability in the Thai agricultural sector

This paper estimated the degree of elasticity substitution of inputs, particularly young labor, older labor, and physical capital. The elasticity of input substitution was estimated using a nested constant elasticity of substitution (CES) production function and nonlinear regression analysis. Research data were obtained from the annual secondary data of government sources from 1990 to 2013. The findings indicated that the input substitutability of young and older labor was low. However, capital and labor could substitute for each other.

This research investigated the report choices used for corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure and the determinants of CSR disclosure of firms listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET). Since 2014, firms listed on the SET have been required to disclose CSR in either an annual registration statement or a separate report called a sustainability report. It was, therefore, noteworthy to examine the choices these firms chose in the first year of disclosure.

This paper aims to demonstrate how Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) can be used as a conceptual framework for investigating gender stereotypes in political media discourse. Language and gender studies in media discourse work with a diverse theoretical standpoint underpinning each particular work, and are generally bound by a concern for the reproduction of ideology in language use, which is also one of the aims of CDA.
