The remote lab is accessed via a PIX firewall, RL-PIX-CSPFA, from the Internet.
The trainer will initiate an IPsec VPN tunnel terminating on RL-PIX-CSPFA. RLPIX-
CSPFA forwards all traffic to a router, RL-RMT-CSPFA, which routes traffic
based on the source IP address to one of three routers, RL-RMT1-CSPFA, RLRMT2-
CSPFA, or RL-RTS-CSPFA. These routers will perform IP address
NATing and route the traffic to the necessary student pod.

The purpose of the template is to differentiate a core group of employees who have excelled in past performance and who show signs of
probable future excellence. This template is in an easy-to-use format that can be used for summarizing views on a particular employee’s 2
Ps (performance and potential).
This template should be used by any manager in the middle or senior management group who has worked with the employee to be
assessed for at least 12 months. Managers should use this to assess any employee who has completed at least 18 months of work
experience.
How to fill in the template:
• The employee's Period...

Turn in this form, along with your scenario, when you are finished. You will then be given a
subnetting exercise to complete.
Please study your scenario carefully and read each instruction thoroughly.
You will have 1 hour to complete this Skills Based Assessment. Use your time wisely. If you
can’t figure something out, move on and come back to it later.
Save your running-config to the startup-config often, so you do not lose your work, should
something happen.
Let me know when you are finished. I will copy your running-config to a floppy disk and grade
your Skills Based Assessment by next week. You may contact me via...

The Challenge:
Organizations delivering
network-based services need powerful end-to-end
solutions to effectively and predictably deliver the
differing Quality-of-Service (QoS) requirements
of voice, video, and data applications. Voice, for
example, requires a small but assured amount of
bandwidth, low delay, low jitter and low packet
loss. A data application such as file transfer
protocol (ftp) needs more bandwidth, but can
tolerate the delay & jitter.

In today’s complex and competitive communications environment, carriers must develop a network
that can deliver high bandwidth data, voice and video services while maintaining standards of
flexibility, reliability and scalability. ADC’s infrastructure products establish a cohesive, easy-tooperate
environment in which to add, retire and upgrade equipment/technologies as required by
the carrier’s business model and growth plans.

For Ethernet services to fully deliver on the promise of lower costs and higher reliability, remote management of the network becomes essential—especially as subscriber numbers increase. Remote isolation of troubles and performance monitoring are minimum requirements for carrier-class Ethernet service.

As bandwidth needs have increased, enterprise customers have found it more economical to
aggregate traffic from remote offices and have it backhauled to the data center via a DS3.
For the carrier, this presents a problem. The carrier must be able to access the DS1s within
the DS3 and then cross-connect them to the appropriate VT1.5s within the SONET payload.
Traditionally, this operation has been performed using a Digital Cross-Connect System (DCS)
and a SONET ADM. Obviously, requiring two separate devices for this function increases
CAPEX and OPEX for the carrier. With the LoopStar 800/1600 SONET Access System’s DS3
Transmux card, there is now a simpler, more...

Today’s service providers are under tremendous pressure to ensure their
networks are profitable. When it comes to fiber-to-the premise (FTTP)
architectures, ADC has done its homework. ADC has helped providers
maximize profits while minimizing expenses, and offers several white papers
which explain considerations and techniques that can be applied to particular
sections of the FTTP network to increase performance, flexibility, and profitability
by decreasing capital expenses (CAPEX) and operating expenses (OPEX).
Having addressed issues such as cable management techniques, central office
considerations and the effects of temperature, this paper will move to the
outside plant (OSP) area. It will discuss key practices and options for saving
additional OPEX over the...

The HLXS is a self-contained sub-system that manages all aspects of HDSL transmission, allowing HDSL
transport capability to be integrated into any T1-compatible telecommunications product, from digital
loop carrier systems to channel boxes to T1 test equipment. All that’s required is a 1.544 Mbps
payload signal interface from the host system with clock and an optional frame pulse. The HLXS
connects to the host system via a single 32-pin connector. Host activation is not required; the HLXS
conducts a complete self-test upon power-up and automatically synchronizes within 30 seconds to the
HDSL equipment at the opposite end....

ADC’s PatchMate EIA-530 digital patching modules monitor, access, test, and reconfigure multiconductor
digital interfaces. Failed circuits can be restored and communication paths rerouted—
independently and immediately. The platform enables higher data rates, superior electrical
performance, and quality, reliable service.
Standard modules contain three front-panel jacks for easy access to the circuit and two rear
connectors for easy integration to the data network. A patch cord inserts into the monitor jack to
provide nonintrusive monitoring or into appropriate connection points for replacement of faulty
equipment. Circuits can be restored with minimum time and effort by splitting and testing them
toward either computer or line equipment....

CONTROLLING COSTS
The cost of the physical network is small compared to the ongoing, laborintensive
outlay for installation, expansion, maintenance, and repair. A
shortsighted purchase can start a never-ending cycle of expensive support.
Worse still is the likelihood of premature obsolescence, which can turn
yesterday's bargain into tomorrow's financial disaster.

Unprecedented growth in the telecommunications industry has driven wide-spread deployment of optical
fiber over the past few years. As a result, many service providers are finding that their existing fiber frames
and troughs are overflowing with large masses of optical fiber patch cords. In addition, the rapid
deployment of SONET/SDH, fiber in the loop and video initiatives has created the demand for increased
termination density at the fiber distributing frame. Service providers must build a sound network
infrastructure that will provide a solid base for delivering the new and enhanced broadband services
promised by the ever-advancing information superhighway....

Fiber Loop Converters are sometimes required to operate over multimode fiber because
an existing span of installed multimode fiber may already be in place between two points
requiring FLC transmission. The FLCs were designed for use over singlemode fiber, and
if there is a choice, singlemode fiber should be installed. However, FLC operation over
multimode fiber is possible and, in fact, is a functioning application with several customers.
LAN applications over short distances have been successful. The following aspects of
this application require attention....
